Mendocino County, California Weather and Marine Report
Report time: Sunday, July 12, 2026, 4:26 PM EDT.
For today, NOAA shows northwest California waters staying breezy with elevated north to northwest winds and small craft advisory conditions in the Mendocino nearshore and outer waters. Seas are holding around 6 to 8 feet, with a mixed pattern of north and northwest energy that keeps conditions choppy and unsettled.
Near buoy 46213 at Cape Mendocino, the latest NOAA observation shows seas near 3.6 feet with a 15 second peak period, a south swell around 2.0 feet at 15.4 seconds, and a northwest wind wave near 3.0 feet at 8.7 seconds. That supports an average wave size today in the roughly 3 to 6 foot range along exposed stretches, with larger sets possible where the northwest energy lines up more directly.
Wave direction is mixed, but the main swell component is from the south, while local wind waves are coming from the northwest. That combination should produce inconsistent surf quality, with short-period chop on top of a longer-period background swell.
Tides for Mendocino today indicate a low tide at 4:19 AM near -1.3 feet and another low tide at 3:18 PM near 2.8 feet, with high tide at 11:19 AM near 4.1 feet and again at 9:40 PM near 7.1 feet. Those swings can noticeably change beach access and nearshore current strength through the afternoon and evening.
In plain terms, expect blustery marine weather, uneven swell, and seas that are manageable for experienced mariners but still rough enough to demand caution. NOAA continues to flag gusty northerly winds and advisory-level conditions across the Mendocino coast and outer waters.
